The branch of dentistry concerned with the structures surrounding and supporting the teeth. Gum disease is one of the major cause for tooth loss in adults today. It is a very slow progressive in form beginning from the gums and later affecting the underlying bone. It is mainly caused by the accumulation of plaque and tartar between the teeth which progresses between the tooth and gums, due to poor maintenance of oral hygiene and habits like chewing of tobacco etc.

• Hormonal changes during puberty, pregnancy and menopause etc…

These mainly correlates to the cause and rise in gingivitis, periodontitis and other such ailments of the gums and its connected tissues

Scaling & Polishing

Scaling and polishing or oral prophylaxis is a simple stress free and a painless procedure which involves the removal of plaque, tartar and stains from the surface of the teeth, which accumulate over a period of time. This is done using an ultrasonic scaling unit. This helps to reduce the propensity and avoid diseases like Gingivitis and periodontitis (sever form of gum disease affecting the gums and underlying bone). A professional cleanup is essentially required by every individual once in every 6 months, to maintain overall health and oral hygiene.
